Analysis of Future Vehicles Advertised During the Super Bowl

Vincentric's Dynamic Cost to Own system also allows us to estimate the cost-of-ownership of future vehicles. Although, no Super Bowl game has gone into overtime play, we can provide some  bonus time to estimate total cost of ownership for vehicles not yet in production. During the Big Game, a few car companies focused on their future model year vehicles.

Audi's ad went along with the latest vampire trend to feature the Audi S7, which you can view here. The Audi S7 showcased their newly designed LED headlights, which turned out to ruin the party for the vampires. We modified the specifications of the the 2012 Audi A7 to determine the cost to own the 2013 Audi S7, with results showing that we expect the costs to weigh-in around $1.06 per mile. Although this S7 has a lower than average fuel cost, the depreciation costs and maintenance costs were better than the competition.

Hyundai's ad, which you can watch below, had a race between a cheetah and a 2013 Veloster Turbo. We created this future vehicle as a 6-speed, manual since our keen eyesight caught the driver manually shifting gears at about the 25 second mark of the commecial as he left the cheetah in the dust.  But if we compare Hyundai's "Cheetah Beater" to the Lexus GS, marketed as the "Beast," we see that the Veloster, which is only 43.9 cents per mile wins handily. However, it is important to recognize that the Lexus is a premium vehicle, and the target market for the GS probably won't be doing comparison test drives of these two vehicles when they hit the market.

Acura also got ahead of the game by promoting their NSX Supercar concept with the luxury brand's first Super Bowl commercial, which you can watch below. Hopefully Jay Leno considered the cost-of-ownership for this luxury vehicle, but if he can afford a "jetpack flying squirrel", then $1.69 per mile to own and operate should be manageable. We have estimated the costs of this Acura concept based on the 2012 Nissan GTR and adjusted the features and specifications to reflect our view of the NSX. With high fuel, insurance, and finance costs, this Supercar will cost a pretty penny. Looks like we'll need better numbers on the football squares next year to start saving up.

Cadillac also took charge during the game and directly tackled its competition. You can view this ad here featuring the 2013 Cadillac ATS, which was designed to go head to head with the BMW 3 Series. This new vehicle from Cadillac was created on a stretch of German asphalt known as "The Green Hell," to push both the car and driver to their limits. Based on some modifcations to specifications of the 2012 Cadillac CTS, including adjustments to price and MPG, we estimate a total cost of ownership of 72.13 cents per mile when the 2013 ATS is launched.
