2012 DEFINING BEST FLEET VALUE

Each month Vincentric measures the cost to own and operate over 2,700 vehicle configurations based upon typical use in a commercial fleet. To determine these overall lifecycle costs, fleet purchase incentives are incorporated into the calculation of the Vincentric Fleet Price for each vehicle, and costs for each vehicle are measured in the following 8 areas:

Depreciation Insurance
Fees & Taxes  Maintenance
(scheduled and unscheduled)
Finance                                Opportunity Cost
Fuel Repairs

  • To determine the Vincentric Best Fleet Value in America™ awards, the eight fleet costs for each of the 2,700+ vehicle configurations were measured in fifty states plus DC, with this data being used to create U.S. totals. The result was over 900,000 cost measurements.

  • These calculations were then used to determine fleet lifecycle costs in 20 different ownership/mileage scenarios, resulting in approximately 21,000,000 fleet lifecycle cost calculations.

  • 24 months of ownership at 10,000, 15,000, 20,000, 25,000, and 30,000 miles annually
  • 36 months of ownership at 10,000, 15,000, 20,000, 25,000, and 30,000 miles annually
  • 48 months of ownership at 10,000, 15,000, 20,000, 25,000, and 30,000 miles annually
  • 60 months of ownership at 10,000, 15,000, 20,000, 25,000, and 30,000 miles annually

  • Qualifying vehicles1 were then assigned to one of 33 different vehicle segments2. For each of the 33 segments, vehicles were ranked low to high in terms of their total lifecycle costs for each of the 20 lifecycle scenarios, resulting in 20 rankings for each segment, or 660 total rankings.

  • If a vehicle had the lowest fleet lifecycle cost in any of the 20 lifecycle scenarios for its segment, it became a finalist. Of the finalists, the vehicle having the lowest fleet lifecycle costs in the most lifecycle scenarios was declared the winner. If two or more vehicles were best in the same number of lifecycle scenarios, the vehicle with the lowest total lifecycle costs adding the costs for all twenty scenarios was declared the winner.

1To qualify, manufacturers needed to have an active fleet program and meet specific thresholds for sales in the commercial and governmental markets.
